Don't Drink the Water!

Kyleigh's teacher stopped me when I went to pick her up today to share with me a humorous little moment in her day. Kyleigh likes a little boy in her class. She wanted to sit beside him during their story time but the only chair next him was taken by another classmate, who Kyleigh asked to move. He told her no and she got upset. It wasn't a full blown meltdown but as can happen with our Aspie, she was just having problems processing the emotions she was feeling and getting herself to calm down. She told the teacher that she just didn't know what to do to calm down so they offered her a chair and a cup of water. Come to find out yesterday one of the classrooms had flooded from what it sounded like to be some kind of problem with plumbing. As a result the water had to be turned off. So here Kyleigh sits, trying to calm herself down, taking sips of this bottled water when suddenly her principal comes on to the intercom with the following announcement "Attention Teachers. The water has been turned back on however it is currently not potable. Please do not drink the water from the taps or fountains." Now every other child is oblivious to the announcement except my darling little bug who suddenly finds herself in direct violation of what she heard the principal say "Don't drink the water!" So in natural form Kyleigh, freaks out... "OH NO! I'm DRINKING THE WATER!" Cue the water works. Her teachers couldn't help themselves and neither could I when they were telling we about this. I can just imagine them sitting there and trying to be comforting and explain to her that Mrs. Templeton didn't mean her water (I've been there!) It was a big enough event that Kyleigh refused water at home later insisting "But momma, Mrs. Tempelton told me I couldn't drink the water!" I'm sure they'll be amused by that one tomorrow when I drop her off.
